Speedier arrival for new LG super-thin OLED TVs

Traditionally, the Super Bowl has spurred TV sales in advance, with an estimated 8.6 million sold in advance of this year's game, according to the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights and Analytics.
LG hopes to build off interest in the Super Bowl ads and drive awareness of its OLED TVs and postgame sales. "OLED has been the future of television for several years now and last year LG brought it to market and had unprecedented demand," said LG Electronics USA vice president of marketing David VanderWaal. "It's no longer the future, it's here."
OLED (organic-light-emitting diode) technology is hailed for its rich colors and deep blacks. "Eventually OLED televisions will be what most brands will want to have," VanderWaal said. "Right now, we have a window of opportunity to make sure people know about OLED and, by the way, LG is the only brand that has OLED."
Competitors Panasonic and Samsung are expected to bring new OLEDs to market, but for now only LG has OLED displays in the U.S.
This new OLED TV is LG's newest top of the line model: it's capable of handling High Dynamic Range (HDR) content with improved colors and contrast beyond standard 4K video. 4K, also referred to as "Ultra HD," delivers four times the resolution of current HDTVs. A 77-inch model is due during the second half of 2016, too.
“The advancements in TV picture quality have been extraordinary in the past year and LG’s Signature 4K Ultra HD OLED is yet another great example of it,” said Luke Motschenbacher, vice president of televisions for Best Buy. Best Buy is among retailers that will have the new TV on display in its Magnolia Design Centers.
Among the retailers that will have the new 65-inch OLED TV on display are Abt ElectronicsBjorn'sBrandsmartFry’s ElectronicsNebraska Furniture MartP.C. Richard & SonValue Electronics and Video & Audio Center.
In advance of the Super Bowl, LG offered bargains on many of its OLED TVs and those offers continue through this week including a $1,999 55-inch curved OLED HDTV ($500 off, plus a sound bar or $100 gift card).
