Samsung Catching Apple Ahead Of Pivotal Galaxy S7 Release

Samsung’s US market share of the smartphone market is on the rise according to Parks Associates’ recent study. Rising to thirty-one percent of the market, the Galaxy manufacturer is closing in on Apple’s forty percent share (reports Stephen Hall for 9to5Mac).

This actually sets up Samsung to make a decent run at Apple over the next few months and potentially grab the number one spot. The South Korean company’s current product line is near the end of its life cycle – the Note 5 has had its rush on both release and Christmas sales, and the Galaxy S6 family are weeks away from handing over to the Galaxy S7.
Samsung is catching up with Apple, and it’s about to roll out a new flagship device to give it an extra push. If the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge can turn the sluggish sales figures of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge around, then Samsung has a shot at overtaking Apple’s iPhone market share in America over the next few months.

It’s not going to be that easy, and there are a few caveats. The first is that online interest in the Galaxy S7 is lower than previous devices, which is not promising for the initial burst of sales that will be needed to gather positive press and critical acclaim… vital ingredients to getting the story of the Galaxy S7 family started in the right direction. Apple is in a curious position of having flat sales of the iPhone, with much of the demand for a larger iPhone screen has been satisfied by the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus released in 2014.

Apple is also preparing to boost its iPhone sales by updating the four-inch screen format with the iPhone 5SE, expected to be announced around three weeks after Samsung reveals the Galaxy S7 family. Just as the Android-powered handsets go on sale, Apple will be looking to tempt users back to the iPhone family with a new and smaller device.

Samsung has the ingredients to show that Apple is old, tired and ready to be overtaken by another device; it has the momentum from these recent numbers; and it is ready to release its most advanced handsets to the market.
All of this may just be for bragging rights in the US market, but that’s an important PR market. With the majority of technology news focused in the US states, getting it right in America is easier to translate into PR for other markets. And it’s easier than using your position as the top handset in Italy. Much of the Galaxy S7′s success will be driven by the sorry that the marketing department can tell… being able to overtake the iPhone – even in America – is a powerful weapon to deploy.
